Blogpost 2: Street Art of Basel


Do you ever wander in your home country or places you travel to and see some artwork filled with colors and magical drawings in streets? Those are called street arts. I have seen so many in my twenty years of existence and it always catches my attention and I immediately fall in love with how artistic people are. There are many forms of street arts. There are graffiti, sculptures, poster arts, sticker street art, and the sideway chalk art. 

A famous spot for street art in Switzerland is the Basel city center. It is said to be filled with a lot of graffiti and street art all over the city. During the 1980's, Basel became a hotspot for tourist to look at street arts. This shows that Switzerland is a country full of culture as cultural diversity can be seen in the street arts of Basel city. The artwork are made by international street artists and a lot of the artists are invited to festivals and events in Basel. Basel city center is known to be a busy tourist attraction in Switzerland as it is the home to not only street arts but also multiple attractions such as museum and galleries. In addition, Art Basel is known to be a very prestigious event that is attracts tourists from all around the world.

Blogpost 1 - Symbols (Assess this)

When you land to a different country, the first thing you see is a big flag of the country you are visiting. In Switzerland, the flag you will see is a white cross in a red background. Fun fact, normally, the shape of the flags are rectangular. Switzerland is one of the only two flags in the world that has a square shape! I chose to talk about the national flag because it represents the whole country and tells a beautiful story about each country. During the early times, flags were made to differ itself from their competitors in the field of battle. It is known to many of us that the colors of the flag has multiple meanings that it wants to portray. Although for Switzerland, historians can not agree to why they chose those colors. The official flag of Switzerland was designed during the 1889 and it is symbolizing the security, peace, and equality of human lives. Security can be seen in Switzerland as it was ranked the 11th safest country to be in during 2019 by the global peace index.

Blogpost 4- Meaningful engagement

When traveling, we do not just have fun and eat good food. I find my travels more meaningful when I am able to learn or contribute something from the trip. Switzerland is known for their many leaders and entrepreneurs around the world. They do a lot of international trade and I believe that learning something from that would be meaningful for me as a commerce student. I am a commerce student at University of Melbourne studying Finance and Management. Switzerland is known for their Swiss banks and through going to different conference, networking events, and fun seminars, I will be able to learn lifelong lessons and gain a deeper insight of Switzerland.                                              I was raised to be open minded by my family and not just stick to things I am good at.
