About me: Hannah Zhou

Hello fellow travelers!

My name is Hannah Klariz Zhou and I am currently 20 years old. I am a Filipino-Chinese from the Philippines and I am now based in Melbourne, Australia. I am a University student with a Bachelor degree of Finance and Management at University of Melbourne. Philippines is well known for their beaches around the world. Philippines is the home to 7,641 island and many wonderful beaches. More than its location, the people are very warm, hospitable, and fun.

Pico Iyer said in his article that his "first great joy of traveling is simply the luxury of leaving all my beliefs and certainties at home, and seeing everything I thought I knew in a different light, and from a crooked angle." I agree with his statement because for me, whenever I travel, I see a whole new perspective about various things. Gaining different perspectives is what excites me the most about traveling.

This blog will be talking about the country in Europe called Switzerland. I will focus on the unique things tourists will want to know before even arriving there!

When you land to a different country, the first thing you see is a big flag of the country you are visiting. In Switzerland, the flag you will see is a white cross in a red background. Fun fact, normally, the shape of the flags are rectangular. Switzerland is one of the only two flags in the world that has a square shape! I chose to talk about the national flag because it represents the whole country and tells a beautiful story about each country. During the early times, flags were made to differ itself from their competitors in the field of battle. It is known to many of us that the colors of the flag has multiple meanings that it wants to portray. Although for Switzerland, historians can not agree to why they chose those colors. The official flag of Switzerland was designed during the 1889 and it is symbolizing the security, peace, and equality of human lives. Security can be seen in Switzerland as it was ranked the 11th safest country to be in during 2019 by the global peace index.

Blogpost 4- Meaningful engagement

When traveling, we do not just have fun and eat good food. I find my travels more meaningful when I am able to learn or contribute something from the trip. Switzerland is known for their many leaders and entrepreneurs around the world. They do a lot of international trade and I believe that learning something from that would be meaningful for me as a commerce student. I am a commerce student at University of Melbourne studying Finance and Management. Switzerland is known for their Swiss banks and through going to different conference, networking events, and fun seminars, I will be able to learn lifelong lessons and gain a deeper insight of Switzerland.                                              I was raised to be open minded by my family and not just stick to things I am good at. I should explore and learn every day. Even though I am a commerce student, I believe that I do not have to stick to my disciplinary skills.
